How to survive back-to-school season

How to survive back-to-school season

Back-to-school is trying for everyone. Although returning to a certain routine can be reassuring, the unknown, adjusting and discipline can, and certainly do, create some stress for children as well as for adults. Knowing this, the best way to prevent exhaustion of body and mind is to nourish our immune and nervous systems so we can face this demanding period.

How, you may ask?

In fact, prevention is always better than cure, and achieving it starts with diet and physical exercise, but also with supplementation. Vitamins such as A, B, C and D are essential. Why? To fend off infections, produce energy, boost the immune system and nourish the nervous system so that it doesn't give way under pressure and stress.

There are also minerals that need to be incorporated into our diet. Calcium and iron are very important for the health of bones, teeth and muscles, but so are magnesium and potassium, to nourish the nervous system, produce enough energy and fight infections.

In addition, we must not underestimate the importance of getting enough protein and essential fatty acids to nourish the brain and ensure the body's growth and development. All of this can be found on our plates; however, during periods of intense stress such as back-to-school, it is recommended to complement one's diet with supplements.

Here are our favourites for children, with no artificial sweeteners and in a flavour base entirely from natural sources:

Sunshine Heroes Multiple Vitamins Plus Iron: This chewable supplement contains 12 essential vitamins, iron, herbs and antioxidants. It wonderfully complements a good diet to ensure an ideal daily intake.

Sunshine Heroes Vitamin C with Elderberry: This supplement can be taken year-round and should be taken preventively, since vitamin C takes 2 weeks to meet the body's needs. Ideally, give it to your child 2 weeks before back-to-school, before Halloween, before the holidays and before the spring thaw, and continue for 2 weeks after the event or period. Vitamin C is known for its support of the immune system and is an excellent antioxidant. Elderberry, for its part, is a small berry with many benefits, such as treating the flu and respiratory tract inflammation.

Sunshine Heroes Bifidophilus: Our bacterial flora, called the microbiota, needs more and more of our attention, since refined foods very high in sugar kill the good bacteria that should naturally be found there. A lack of good bacteria in our intestines is at the root of digestive and intestinal disorders, including bloating, gas, constipation or diarrhea, but this situation also weakens our immune system and can even cause attention problems in some people. It is therefore strongly recommended to take probiotics regularly.

In short, whether to strengthen our children or ourselves, eating well, moving, sleeping well and complementing it all with supplementation are winning solutions for surviving back-to-school and all the more stressful and demanding periods of our lives.
